LEO VI, EMPEROR OF THE EAST, called the WISE - Coronation. Marble frieze (10th cent.) - Berlin, Friedrich Museum.

LEO VI, Emperor of the East, called the Wise. - Greek emperor (886-916). He deposed the patriarch Photius in 886, and on the occasion of the question of the Tetragamy, the patriarch Nicholas called the Mystic. L. is the author of juridical texts or laws and of sermons, among which is the discourse in memory of his father Basil.
