G.and at the same time took to zealously promoting virtue and piety among her companions, who called her "the little schoolmistress." In 1837, to fulfill the desire of her bishop, Agostino M. de Mari, she gathered some companion friends and opened two schools in Savona, which were the cradle of the new institute. On Oct. 22, 1837, they received the habit together; on Aug. 2, 1839, they made their vows; in 1840 R. took on for forty years the direction of her religious family, which continually grew in number and in institutions in Italy and America. She also lent her assistance to the organization of a small diocesan seminary and aided Fr. G. B. Olivieri and Biagio Verri in the work of redeeming young slaves from the African coast.
She was beatified on Nov. 6, 1938; canonized on June 12, 1949. Feast day on Dec. 7.
