MARINONI, GIOVANNI FRANCESCO. - Barnabite ascetical writer, b. at Clusone (Bergamo) on 30 June 1678, d. at Milano on 27 Feb. 1761. A religious of outstanding virtue, he wrote ascetical works full of doctrine, reprinted several times.
Among these the following should be noted: Distribuzione del tempo (during the spiritual exercises among the Barnabites; Milano 1706); Speculum asceticum (ibid. 1719), with a first part of Sacra monita drawn from the Fathers and Holy Scripture and arranged in the form of a little mirror, and a second part of Alimenta mentis et cordis, devout aspirations, prayers, and
various commentaries on the Pater noster; Avvertimenti intorno alla Confessione (ibid. 1720); I venerdì in onore dei sette dolori di M. Vergine (ibid. 1730), which contains a historical account of the « Compagnia dei sette Dolori di M. detta del Suffragio » established in 1615 in the church of the Barnabites of S. Alessandro in Milano.
