Martyr, Venantius

MARTYR DEI VENANTIUS

"MARTYR DEI VENANTIUS." - Hymn of Vespers for the feast of St. Venantius, by an unknown author, inserted into the Breviary by Clement X in 1670 together with the feast of the young martyr of Camerino.

It is a brief narrative poem of the deeds of the Saint, who suffered atrocious torments for his faith. No breath of poetry inspires these stanzas, but the account of the martyrdom awakens deep admiration.
