« MATRIS SUB ALMAE NUMINE ». — Hymn of Vespers for the feast of the Seven Holy Founders, by an unknown author, composed in the eighteenth century and revised by Msgr. V. Tarozzi, secretary to Leo XIII for Latin letters, when they were canonized in 1888 and the feast was extended to the universal Church.
It celebrates the holy death of the seven noble Florentines who, having abandoned earthly comforts, withdrew to Monte Senario, where they founded the Order of the Servants of Mary. The last three stanzas are a humble prayer that these blessed possessors of heavenly glory may obtain, through the sorrows of the Virgin, peace of heart. The final doxology is addressed to the Most Holy Trinity, asking that it grant us the ability to follow the example of the fathers.
