MEYER (Latin: Villicus), Adam. - Benedictine abbot, monastic reformer, b. at St. Wendel at the beginning of the 15th century, d. at St. Martin of Cologne on 17 February 1499. He entered the Benedictine abbey of St. Matthias at Trier around 1430. Called (around 1448) to St. Martin of Cologne for the reform, he became abbot there on 29 September 1454. M. restored discipline in all the monasteries of the vicinity and was the soul of the Chapter of the monastic province of Cologne-Trier, of which he was visitor on 27 April 1458.

He worked hard to extend the reform of the Congregation of Bursfeld, which he introduced at St. Martin of Cologne (1455), in the women's monasteries of Zwartewater (1469), of St. Agatha in Cologne, then at Liesborn (1464), Grafschaft (1482), Egmond in Holland (1490-91). From St. Martin of Cologne reforming monks and abbots went to Siloe, St. Paul of Utrecht, Johannisberg, Laach.
