MOHR, THEODOR VON. — Swiss historian, b. May 15, 1794 at Süs in the Engadine, d. June 10, 1854 at Chur. Having graduated in law, M. first practiced as a lawyer at Süs, then moved to Chur, where he took part in municipal and cantonal life. But dissatisfied with the liberal and progressive political direction, M., who was of ultra-conservative tendencies, abandoned political life for study.
In 1826 he founded, together with other friends, the Society for the Study of the History of the Grisons and was its president until his death. In 1840 he was also among the founders of the Swiss Historical Society. Charged by the latter with editing the registers of Chur, from 1851 to 1854 he published them in 2 vols. quarto; the registers of the monastery of Disentis, included in them, were edited by him personally. He also founded the Historical Archive of the Grisons (Archiv für die Geschichte der Republik Graubünden) and the Codex diplomaticus. Shortly before his death M. converted to the Catholic faith.
