MOHR, THEODOR von. - Swiss historian, b. on 15 May 1794 at Süs, in the Engadine, d. on 1 June 1854 at Coira. Having taken a degree in law, M. practised as a lawyer first at Süs, then moved to Coira, where he took part in municipal and cantonal life. Dissatisfied, however, with the liberal and progressive political orientation, M.,
who held ultraconservative views, abandoned political life for scholarship.
In 1826, together with other friends, he founded the Society for the Study of the History of the Grisons, and was its president until his death. In 1840 he was also among the founders of the Swiss Historical Society. Commissioned by the latter to compile the Coira regesta, from 1851 to 1854 he published them in 2 quarto volumes; the regesta of the monastery of Disentis, included therein, were compiled by him personally. He also founded the Historical Archive of the Grisons (Archiv für die Geschichte der Republik Graubünden) and the Codex diplomaticus. Shortly before his death M. converted to the Catholic faith.
