MONCALVO, CACCIA GUGLIELMO called il. – Painter, born in Montabone (Acqui) around 1568, died in 1625. He settled in Moncalvo in 1593, whence his nickname.
He was an eclectic, Mannerist painter, influenced both by the Piedmontese tradition dominated by Gaudenzio Ferrari and by Lombard painting, especially that of the Procaccini school. His pictorial output is abundant. The following may be mentioned: the altarpiece, signed and dated 1585, for the Annunziata of Guarene. Frescoes in the sanctuary of Crea; in the chapel of the Rosary at Candia Lomellina (1590); in S. Marco of Novara (1614); at the Carmine in Pavia (1621).
