PROCACCINI. — Family of Bolognese painters, later transferred to Milano.
ERCOLE ILVECCHIO, the founder of the family, born in Bologna in 1515, died in Milano on 5 January 1595. Lomazzo recalls him as a pupil of Prospero Fontana; his works (Madonna and Child in S. Maria Maggiore of Bologna, from 1570; The Fall of s. Paul, in S. Giacomo Maggiore, from 1573; The Virgin and Child to whom s. Nicholas presents the three maidens, there, from 1582) show him to have been an eclectic Mannerist, with Roman and Parmese influences. Between 1585 and 1586 he moved to Milano, where, assisted by his sons, he opened a school of painting.
