CRESPI, DANIELE. — Painter, born in Busto Arsizio ca. 1600, died in Milan in 1630. Educated on the examples of Giovan Battista Crespi, Procaccini, and Morazzone, he was a strange and inconsistent artist. He worked extensively for the churches of Milan: indeed, his works are found in S. Maria della Passione, S. Vittore, S. Alessandro, S. Eustorgio, S. Maria al Castello, S. Pietro in Gessate, S. Nazzaro Maggiore, and S. Protaso. He also frescoed the Certosa of Garegnano. The Virgin between St. Francis and St. Charles Borromeo, which is in the Brera, is to be counted among his best works.
