CRESPI, DANIELE. — Painter, born in Busto Arsizio around 1600, died in Milan in 1630. Educated through the examples of Giovan Battista Crespi, Procaccini, and Morazzone, he was a strange and uneven artist.
He worked extensively for the churches of Milan: indeed, his works are found in S. Maria della Passione, S. Vittore, S. Alessandro, S. Eustorgio, S. Maria al Castello, S. Pietro in Gessate, S. Nazzaro Maggiore, and S. Protaso. He also frescoed the charterhouse of Garegnano. The Virgin between s. Francesco and s. Carlo Borromeo, which is in Brera, should be counted among his finest works.
