EUSTORGIUS, Saint. - He is said to have been bishop of Milan between 343-50. He is remembered with praise by St. Athanasius and St. Ambrose as a zealous and fervent orthodox; but unfortunately no other reliable information about him is known. There exists a biography written by Landolfo in the 11th century, according to which E. was sent from the East as governor of Milan. On the death of Protasius he was acclaimed bishop, but he did not wish to accept the dignity without the good pleasure and approval of the Emperor. He therefore went to Constantinople, whence he returned with privileges for the city and bringing back the bodies of the Sts. Magi. During his episcopate the two synods against Photinus were held in Milan in 346 and 348. He is commemorated on September 18.
