OVIEDO, ANTONIA de la MISERICORDIA. - Servant of God, Spanish, b. at Lausanne on 16 March 1822, d. at Ciempozuelos near Madrid on 28 Feb. 1898. From 1848 to 1859 she was governess to the daughters of Queen Maria Cristina of Habsburg, residing in various European capitals. Invited by the Benedictine Abp. Serra, bishop of Daulia, in 1869 she founded with him the Congregation of the Oblates of the Most Holy Redeemer for the rehabilitation of wayward girls. The first house of the Institute was that of Ciempozuelos, where the foundress died. She had the joy of seeing her work spread rapidly in Spain and abroad. The process of beatification is underway.
