OSSÓ y CERVELLÓ, ENRIQUE. – Spanish canon, born in Vinebre (Tarragona) on 16 October 1840 and died at Sancti-Spiritus near Valencia on 27 January 1896.
A man of ardent zeal, he fought the enemies of the Church through the press and catechesis, and in 1876 founded the Company of St Teresa, a congregation of women religious devoted to teaching which today (1952) has 67 schools, 3,000 religious and 25,000 pupils. O. y C. succeeded in assimilating and living the spirit of St Teresa. In 1876 he led a pilgrimage of 8,000 devotees of the Saint to Rome. The body of the servant of God rests in the church of the novitiate at Tortosa, the cradle of the Institute. His beatification process has been under way since 1926.
