OSSÓ y CERVELLÓ, ENRIQUE. - Spanish canon, b. at Vinebre (Tarragona) on 16 Oct. 1840 and d. at Sancti-Spiritus near Valencia on 27 Jan. 1896.

A man of ardent zeal, he fought the enemies of the Church through the press, catechesis and by founding in 1876 the Company of St. Teresa, a congregation of sisters dedicated to teaching and which today (1952) has 67 colleges, 3000 religious and 25,000 pupils. O. y C. succeeded in assimilating and living the spirit of St. Teresa. In 1876 he led to Rome a pilgrimage of 8000 devotees of the Saint. The body of the servant of God rests in the church of the novitiate of Tortosa, cradle of the Institute. Since 1926 the process for his beatification has been under way.
