PAGI, ANTONIO. – Friar Minor, born at Rognes (Provence) on 31 March 1624, died at Nice on 5 June 1699. He was elected provincial for France in 1652 and three more times thereafter.
A scholar of great merit, he published the Sermones of s. Antonio di Padova and learned dissertations; but better known is the work whose first volume he published in Paris in 1689: Critica historico-chronologica in Annales ecclesiastico cardinalis Baronii. The other three volumes were published by his nephew Francesco (born 7 September 1654 in Provence, died 21 January 1721), who had been his collaborator in the work. The latter, in turn, published a Breviarium historico-chronologico-criticum on the deeds of the pontiffs up to 1447, the general councils, and the ancient rites of the Church (Antwerp 1717–27, in 4 volumes), which was in turn continued by his nephew Antonio together with two further volumes.
