PHOGOR (Heb. Pē'ōr). — A mountain in Moab (Num. 23:28) Phasga (v.), which seems to be identifiable with the present-day range of el-Mušakkar, Nebo (v.). The “valley” of P. (Deut. 3:29; 4:46; 34:6) therefore corresponds to the Wādi 'Ajūn Mūsā, which separates the two ranges. On Mount P. there was the place of worship, or city, Beelphegor (v.), which in the Byzantine period (Onomast., 48, 3) was situated 6 miles from Livias and 7 Hesebon (v.), at the site of the present-day Hirbet eš-Šejh Gājel.
