Peter of Ghent

PETER of GAND. — Missionary, b. c. 1480 near Ghent, d. in Mexico on 20 Apr. 1572. Of the van der Mure family, he was related to Charles V (perhaps his natural brother). He probably studied at Louvain and spent some time at court, then entered the Franciscan Order and never wished to be ordained a priest.
