POTOSÍ IN BOLIVIA, DIOCESE of. - Diocese of Bolivia in South America, suffragan of the archdiocese of Sucre.

It has an area of 116,662 sq. km., with a population of 549,950 inhabitants, of whom 543,800 are Catholic; 47 parishes served by 34 diocesan priests and 18 regular clergy; 3 male and 9 female religious communities (Ann. Pont., 1952, p. 327). The city of P. was erected into a diocese by Pope Pius XI with the apostolic constitution Praecessioribus nostris of 11 November 1924, by separation from the archdiocese of La Plata. - See plate CXXIV.
