TARIJA, Diocese of. – City and diocese of Bolivia (South America).
It has an area of 24,786 sq. km. and a population of 96,000 inhabitants, of whom 95,000 are Catholics; it comprises 10 parishes served by 6 diocesan priests and 12 regular clergy; it has 5 male and 2 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1953, p. 417). By the apostolic constitution Praedecessoribus Nostris of 11 November 1924, Pope Pius XI erected it as a diocese, suffragan to the archdiocese of Sucre.
