Pozzetti, Pompilio

POZZETTI, POMPILIO. - Born at Mirandola on 17 January 1760; a Piarist on 17 September 1775, died at Bologna on 18 April 1815.

An illustrious historian and polygraph, he was one of the most prominent Piarists in the last years of the eighteenth century. The successor of the celebrated Tiraboschi in the Estense Library at Modena, he then moved to the chair of history and diplomatics at the University of Bologna, having also been for many years secretary of the Italian Society of the Forty. He had relations with the leading men of letters and scientists of his time. A polished writer and celebrated polemicist, he contributed to various literary journals. His Lettere mirandolesi and other pamphlets with eulogies of famous men are noteworthy.
