POZZETTI, POMPILIO. - Born in Mirandola on 7 Jan. 1760; admitted into the Piarists on 17 Sept. 1775; died in Bologna on 18 Apr. 1815.
A distinguished historian and polygraph, he was one of the most prominent Piarists in the closing decades of the 18th century. Succeeding the celebrated Tiraboschi as librarian of the Estense Library in Modena, he later moved to the chair of history and diplomatics at the University of Bologna, having also served for many years as secretary of the Società italiana dei Quaranta. He maintained relations with the leading literary figures and scientists of his day. A polished writer and celebrated polemicist, he contributed to several literary journals. Notable among his works are the Lettere mirandolesi and other pamphlets containing eulogies of famous men.
