POZZETTI, POMPILIO. - Born at Mirandola on 17 Jan. 1760; became a Piarist on 17 Sept. 1775; died at Bologna on 18 Apr. 1815.
An eminent historian and prolific writer, he was one of the most prominent Piarists in the final decades of the eighteenth century. Successor to the celebrated Tiraboschi at the Biblioteca Estense in Modena, he later assumed the chair of history and diplomatics at the University of Bologna, having also served for many years as secretary of the Società italiana dei Quaranta. He maintained relations with the leading men of letters and scientists of his time. An accomplished writer and celebrated polemicist, he contributed to various literary journals. Noteworthy are his Lettere mirandolesi and other pamphlets containing eulogies of famous men.
