RADINI TEDESCHI, CARLO. - Catholic organizer, b. at Piacenza in 1829, d. there on 23 March 1908. Of a noble family, he preserved and transmitted to his numerous offspring the finest traditions; he was the father of Giacomo (v.).
He held public offices at Piacenza with honor and acquired many claims to merit in Catholic Action, distinguishing himself in a special way in the legal defense of the Opere Pie; for several years he indeed presided over the Section of the Opera dei Congressi cattolici dedicated precisely to patronizing charitable and religious foundations and legacies, both in the judicial sphere and in administrative litigation, and this in particular after the promulgation of the sectarian Crispi law of July 1890. In the principal dioceses, colleges were established for consultation and legal assistance to episcopal Curias, factory boards and confraternities, so that oppose arbitrary concentrations of conserved foundations, or undue interference by fiscal agents to suppress others. These local colleges were under the Section of the Opera dei Congressi, and not a few cases were won before the tribunals and the Courts, or with appeals to the Council of State. The R. T. held this presidency as long as the Opera dei Congressi lasted (1904), with great advantage to the pious institutions; in the matter althen among the most agonizing in the relations between the Holy See and the Italian State.
