SALA, ANTONIO LUDOVICO. - Student of medicine, born at Aicurzio (Milan) on 30 Apr. 1857, died at Rome on 1 Oct. 1936. Having entered the Concezionisti (1879), he was ordained priest on 30 Nov. 1904.
A graduate in surgery and phlebotomy from the University of Rome, he perfected his studies under the influence of the Viennese school of dermatology. He cultivated therapeutic experimentation, especially in herbal science, and prepared numerous specific remedies such as ezeziasi, psoraresi, anticalvizie, etc. These preparations formed the therapeutic core of the method still used at the Istituto dermopatico dell'Immacolata, which he founded in Rome in 1901. In articles and pamphlets (Nuovo trattamento di alcune malattie della pelle, Milano 1927, etc.) he illustrated his methods of dermatological therapy, especially for certain diseases then considered incurable, such as lupus, ringworm, eczema, etc.
