SALA, ANTONIO LUDOVICO. - A student of medicine, b. at Aicurzio (Milan) on 30 April 1857, d. at Rome on 1 Oct. 1936. Having entered the Conceptionists (1879), he was ordained a priest on 30 Nov. 1904.
Having obtained a diploma in surgery and phlebotomy at the University of Rome, he perfected his studies under the influence of the Vienna school of dermatology. He cultivated therapeutic experimentation, especially in the science of herbalism, and prepared numerous specific remedies such as: ezeziasi, psoraresi, anticalvizie, etc. These preparations constituted the therapeutic mainstay of the method still used in the Istituto dermopatico dell'Immacolata, which he founded in Rome in 1901. He illustrated with articles and pamphlets (Nuovo trattamento di alcune malattie della pelle, Milan 1927, etc.) his methods of dermatological therapy, especially in certain diseases then incurable, such as lupus, ringworm, eczema, etc.
