SAN CRISTOFORO DI VENEZUELA, DIOCESI di. – Diocese and capital city of the department of Táchira in the Republic of Venezuela.
It has an area of 16,015 sq. km and a population of 307,583 inhabitants, of whom 304,583 are Catholics; it has 33 parishes served by 40 diocesan priests and 48 religious priests; it has a seminary, 10 male and 17 female religious communities (Ann. Pont., 1952, p. 351). The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XI by the constitution Ad munus of 12 October 1922, as a suffragan of Merida, elevating the church of the martyr S. Sebastiano to the dignity of cathedral.
