SANCTORUM MERITIS INCLITA GAUDIA

« SANCTORUM MERITIS INCLITA GAUDIA ». — Hymn of Vespers in the Common of several martyrs, written by Rabano Mauro (cf. C. M. Dreves, Analecta hymn., 50 [1907], p. 204 ff.).

The beginning is an urgent invitation to celebrate the glory of the martyrs, victorious in the struggles of the world; then, in three further stanzas, their heroic deeds as soldiers of Christ, who fought for him and gave their lives, are exalted.
