It was erected by decree of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda on 2 February 1916, when the ecclesiastical province of Tegucigalpa was created. The erection, however, was carried out in 1921. It has an area of 100,000 sq. km., with 100,000 inhabitants, all Catholic. Erected on 4 October 1919 by the apostolic bull *Universale regimen*, following the division of the diocese of Amazonas and entrusted to the Servants of Mary, it comprises 5 parishes, with 8 regular priests. There are communities of Sisters Servants of Mary, Reparatrix.
