SCHERER-BOCCARD, THEODOR. – Swiss publisher and politician, born on 12 May 1816 at Donach (Solothurn), died on 6 February 1885 at Solothurn.
He directed several periodicals (Schildwache am Jura from 1836 to 1840; Luzerner Staatszeitung der katholischen Schweiz from 1842 to 1847; Schweizerische Kirchenzeitung from 1855 to 1872), carried out active journalistic work during the period of the Sonderbund, and after 1847 devoted himself particularly to the Catholic restoration in Switzerland, promoting in 1857 the foundation of the Piusverein, of which he was president until his death, in 1868 that of the Archiv für schweizerische Reformationsgeschichte, and in 1874 that of the Association for Catholic Worship.
A member of the Arcadia from 1846, he was created a Roman count by Pius IX in 1852.
