SEEBÖCK, PHILIBERT. - Second Franciscan writer on ascetics, b. at Innsbruck in 1839, d. at Schwaz (Tyrol) in 1914.
He was professor at the gymnasium in Hall (Tyrol) from 1863 to 1881, reader in ecclesiastical history and the New Testament in various convents of the Tyrol. In 1891-92 he was in Rome at the Collegio S. Antonio. He went as visitor to Transylvania in 1894.
He was the author of 192 religious works, of which 9 were on preaching, 95 on prayers and edification, and 88 on various subjects. Among these, *Der Edelstein der gottgeweihten Jungfräulichkeit* (51st ed. in 1920) and *Kleine illustrierte Heiligenlegende* (11th ed. in 1907), of which there also exists an Italian translation, enjoyed very wide circulation. He translated the sermons of Fr. Agostino da Montefeltro (1889-90) and edited the work of Peter Auriol: *Compendium S. Scripturae* (Quaracchi 1896).
