STEINER, AGNES CLARE OF THE SACRED SIDE, Venerable - Born Teresa, foundress of the Poor Clares

Born on 29 Aug. 1813 at Tesido (Taisten) in the diocese of Bressanone, died at Nocera Umbra on 24 Aug. 1862.

After overcoming serious difficulties, she entered in 1838 the Third Order of St. Francis among the Bavarian sisters of Assisi, and changed her name. Mistress of novices in 1843, she taught them the seraphic virtues, seeking to instill in them the love of Jesus Crucified with which she was inflamed to the highest heights of mystical union. she is called to found in Nocera Umbra a convent of Mitigated Poor Clares, of which she was the first abbess. There she died in the odor of sanctity.

"Maria Agnese is a saint, truly a saint," Pius IX said of her. On 18 March 1909 her cause of beatification was introduced in Rome.
