SEGALA, ALESSIO da SALÒ. – Capuchin preacher and writer on asceticism, born at Salò in 1558, entered the Order in 1580, died at Brescia on 8 January 1628.
He wrote ascetic booklets, collected in the Opere spirituali, Venice 1623; 1637; 1643, with additions. Of a practical tendency, he instructs and engages the soul in the struggle against vices and in the acquisition of virtues through the Pratica singolare, Brescia 1611, and through the Via sicura del Paradiso, there 1617. In the Trionfo delle anime del Purgatorio, there 1620, he encouraged exercises on their behalf; for this purpose he founded a confraternity in Brescia and elsewhere.
