SEMENENKO, PIETRO. — Co-founder and superior general of the Congregation of the Resurrection, theologian, preacher, philosopher, ascetical and mystical writer, born near Tykocin (Poland) in 1814, died in a reputation for holiness in Paris in 1886, buried at Campo Verano in Rome. He was a Consultor of the Sacred Congregations of the Index and of the Holy Office. He founded the Polish College in Rome.
In addition to various volumes of sermons and apologetic and ascetical writings, he published: Totianski et sa doctrine, Paris 1852; On Averroes, Rome 1861; St Peter, Author of Civilization, ibid. 1868; Quid Papa et quid Episcopatus ex aeterna et divina ratione, ibid. 1871; Recensio Actorum et Decretorum Conc. Prov. Alba-Juliensis et Fagarasiensis Graeci Ritus celebrati in Basilica Basiliensi A. D. 1872.
