SENATORE, saint. – He is commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 28 May, but in the ancient Milanese catalogues the following day is given.
In 450, while still a priest, he was sent by St. Leo the Great, together with Bishop Abbondio of Como, to Constantinople to press for the condemnation of Eutyches (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 478). In 495 he was elected bishop of Milan and distinguished himself by his virtues, talent, and eloquence, according to the testimony of Ennodius. He died after three years of episcopate and was buried in the church of S. Eufemia, probably built by him.
