SENATORE, SANTO

SENATOR, saint. — He is commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 28 May, but in the ancient Milanese catalogues the following day is recorded.

In 450, still a priest, he was sent by St LEO the Great together with Bishop ABBONDIO of Como to Constantinople to urge the condemnation of Eutyches (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 478). In 495 he was elected Bishop of Milan and distinguished himself for his virtues, intelligence and eloquence, according to the testimony of Ennodius. He died after three years as bishop and was buried in the church of St EUPHEMIA, which he himself had probably built.
