SENATORE, SANTO

SENATOR, Saint. - He is commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 28 May, but in the ancient Milanese catalogues he is listed on the following day.

In 450, still a priest, he was sent by St. Leo the Great together with Bishop Abundius of Como to Constantinople to urge the condemnation of Eutyches (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 478). In 495 he was elected bishop of Milan and distinguished himself by his virtues, intellect and eloquence, according to the testimony of Ennodius. He died after 3 years of episcopate and was buried in the church of St. Euphemia, which he himself probably built.
