SISINNIO, PAPA

SISINNIUS, Pope. - A Syrian by origin, he succeeded John VII (d. 18 Oct. 707) on 15 Jan. 708, after a vacancy of almost three months.

In order to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants of the City against possible incursions by the Lombards or the Saracens, he ordered that the kilns be reactivated for firing the bricks needed for the repairs of the walls, but his order remained unexecuted because of the death that overtook him following an attack of gout, on 4 February of the following year. He was buried in St. Peter's.
