SOMMO REFECTIS ARTUBUS

SOMNO REFECTIS ARTUBUS. - Hymn of Matins on Monday, by an unknown author; it is found in manuscripts of the 9th century (G. M. Dreves, Anal. hymn., III, Leipzig 1888, p. 27 ff.).

Once the night has passed, the first loosening of the tongue goes to the Lord, the first beating of the heart in the day that is being born, and just as the darkness gives way to the light, so guilt, which is the darkness of the soul, is dispelled at the appearing of God's Grace.
