«SOMMO REFECTIS ARTUBUS». — Matins hymn for Monday, by an unknown author; it is found in manuscripts of the ninth century (G. M. Dreves, Anal. hymn., III, Leipzig 1888, p. 27 ff.).
When the night has passed, the first loosening of the tongue and the first beating of the heart on the day that is dawning belong to the Lord; and just as darkness yields its place to light, so may guilt, which is the darkness of the soul, vanish at the appearance of the Grace of God.
