SUPERIOREN-VEREINIGUNG

SUPERIOR UNION. - Association of major superiors (abbots and provincials) of the Orders and clerical Congregations of Germany whose members worked either in missionary territories or among German emigrants abroad.

It was founded in 1898 in Krefeld under the name Superior Conference (Conference of Superiors). Its founders were the seven religious Congregations that had missions in the German colonies. Later it was expanded to include all other missionary institutes and changed its name to that of S.-V. ("Superior Union"). The general secretary, entrusted with safeguarding the interests of missionary institutes before ecclesiastical and civil authorities, has been based in Berlin since 1923. Giovanni Rommerskirchen
