He entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1895. After ordination to the priesthood in 1901, he became editor of the missionary periodical *Maria Immacolata* (now *Monatsblätter der Oblaten*) and professor at the Oblate theological studentate in Hünfeld. In 1924 he was called to Rome to organize and catalogue the Library of the Vatican Missionary Exposition of the Holy Year 1925, and in 1926 he became director of the Pontifical Missionary Library, which he himself arranged in the Palazzo of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide.

PIANENTE, MARIA TERESA. - Born at Würzburg on 24 Nov. 1844; died at Castro S. Elia (diocese of Nepi) on 6 Mar. 1911.
Thoroughly educated and devoted to works of piety, at the age of 21 she entered the Third Order Sisters of St Francis, among whom from 1866 to 1882 she held various offices and charges. Desiring, however, a stricter life, she entered the Carmelites but was unable to remain. After a few months she was summoned to Rome by Fr Giovanni Jordan, founder of the Society of the Divine Saviour, and under his guidance founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother. This was approved by the Cardinal Vicar in 1885, with the purpose of assisting the sick in hospitals and private homes, running orphanages, schools, kindergartens and hospices. In 1886 she was named Mother General, serving in that office for ten years until deposed on false charges. She lived and worked for another fifteen years, first in Rome and then at Castro S. Elia, in the greatest humility, wholly dedicated to prayer, penance and the education of children. Her death revealed her remarkable holiness, attested by the graces, even extraordinary, granted to those who invoked her; so that the cause of her beatification was introduced on 13 June 1947.
