Telepathy

TELEPATIA

Italian original Cite

TELEPATIA (τῆ) = lontano e πάθος = sofferenza; ciò che è subito da qualcuno). - A particular form of indirect clairvoyance (v.) in which the cognitive relation takes place between two or more intelligent beings (between "mind and mind"; "transmission of thought").

From the studies currently carried out with the scientific method, in particular at Duke University in Durham, telepathy appears to be a phenomenon that really exists, linked to a particular sensitivity present in all men, in a more or less latent and educable form ("ESP effect" = extra sensory perception).

The cases of "mind reading" exhibited in variety shows are often, rather than true telepathy, connected with trickery or with particular abilities of the "diviner" in exploiting the small involuntary indicative signs of the person guiding him (imperceptible muscular contractions of the hand, changes in breathing, etc.).

For the moral judgment, v. TELESTHESIA.
