THERIN-BONESIO, LUDOVICO. - Capuchin theologian, b. in Turin on 27 Aug. 1705, entered the Order on 22 Sept. 1720, d. at Bobbio on 28 July 1780. He was secretary general (1740), provincial (1746), definitor, procurator and postulator of the Order (1747-1761).

As postulator, he worked hard for the cause of St. Veronica Giuliani. Elected bishop of Bobbio, in 1766 he understood the need for a uniform popular catechism for all the parishes of the diocese and, taking his inspiration from Bossuet's Catéchisme du diocèse de Meaux (1687), he wrote a Compendio della dottrina cristiana (Cremona, no date), much praised and published several times; he had an influence on the Catechismo ad uso di tutte le chiese del Regno d'Italia promulgated at Milan in 1807 by Cardinal G. Caprara by order of the viceroy Eugène Napoléon.
