TRISTES ERANT APOSTOLI. - Hymn of Vespers and Matins of the Common of the Apostles in Paschal time, it comes from the ancient Benedictine tradition and is preserved in hymnaries of Irish origin. The oldest manuscripts are from the 9th century.
It is a faithful narrative of the events that followed the death of Christ and are reported by the Evangelists: the discouragement of the Apostles, their bewilderment, the message of the pious women, the journey into Galilee, the appearance of Christ.
