TOMMADINI, Jacopo. – Master composer, born in Cividale on 24 Aug. 1820, died there on 21 Jan. 1883.
Ordained priest in 1846, he became a canon of the collegiate church in his native town. In music he attained an eminent position through his profound classical knowledge, his inspiration, and the nobility of his form. He refused modest honorary posts in other Italian and foreign cities, living in retirement a life of austerity devoted solely to art. He wrote a large number of sacred compositions that met with wide acclaim. His oratorio *La Risurrezione di Cristo* was a genuine revelation, so much so that it could rival those of Haydn and Handel.
