Candotti, Giovanni Battista

CANDOTTI, GIOVANNI BATTISTA. - Musician, b. at Codroipo on 1 Aug. 1809, d. at Cividale on 11 Apr. 1876. A priest, composer, organist, and choirmaster at the collegiate church of Cividale, he was a prolific writer of sacred music in a severe contrapuntal style.

Among his works, a Miserere for 2 male voices is noteworthy. He also published a dissertation: Sul canto ecclesiastico e sulla musica sacra (Venice 1847), and some monographs on Friulian musicians. He was the teacher of Jacopo Tomadini.
