VENTURA, GUGLIELMO. — Born in Asti c. 1250, died after 1310.
He wrote an interesting chronicle of the events in his native city, in Piedmont and in the surrounding regions.
In it he narrated impartially the cruelties of Ezzelino and his own misfortunes. He noted that he had been taken prisoner in 1273 during a battle. During a war against the Marquis of Saluzzo he held the office of consul and was consequently held responsible for the famine that befell Asti as a result of the hostilities. In his will, drawn up in 1310 (ch. 57), he left excellent advice to his sons and showed his severity in forbidding them to read romances. His account of the festivities held in Rome on the occasion of the Jubilee of 1300 is very vivid.
