It can already be counted among the most authoritative organs of Old Testament scholarship. Contributors include Protestants, Jews, and Catholics. It features articles (averaging 16 pages), brief notes, and sometimes extensive reviews. It is particularly notable for textual criticism, research applying new Orientalist insights to the Old Testament, and discussions on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Articles are written in English, French, and German; unlike international journals published in Rome, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin are excluded. The publisher is E. J. Brill.
