Vienne (VIPONE) — Azione Romana

VIENNE. - Probably a native of Burgundy (the years of his birth and death are not documented), a priest and court chaplain under the emperors Conrad II and Henry III, he was among the most notable chroniclers of the German Middle Ages.

He composed all his works in Latin: foremost among them are the Gesta Chuomradi imperatoris, which represent in Germany the first biography, after that of Louis the Pious, of a lay character, and which stand out for their liveliness and warmth, if not for historical sense, as well as for a fresh and flowing language. He also wrote the Proverbia dedicated to Henry III, and works in verse, such as the Lamentation on the death of Conrad II and the Tetralogus, which is instead a song of good wishes, rich in interesting admonitions, for the accession to the throne of Henry III, to whom it was delivered at Christmas of 1041. In 1046 he is mentioned for the last time.
