It is known only that he maintained good relations with the court of Constantinople, that CONSTANS II confirmed his election without difficulty and had his name inscribed in the diptychs. On 5 July 663, VITALIAN accorded magnificent welcomes to the emperor. But the *Liber Pontificalis* bitterly notes the frauds perpetrated against some churches of Rome. It should also be noted that CONSTANS II gravely violated the privileges of the Holy See by removing the see of Ravenna from its jurisdiction (19 March 666). He is inscribed in the Roman Martyrology; feast day, 27 January.
