It originated in 1850 through the division of the Diocese of Amadia into three: Amadia, Akra, and Z. In the territory of the Diocese of Z., union with the Catholic Church spread toward the end of the eighteenth century. It now has 12,000 faithful among 70,000 inhabitants, mostly Kurds and Muslims; 20 parishes, 20 priests, and 13 schools with 550 pupils.
