ZALLINGER ZUM THURN, JAKOB ANTON. Jesuit, canonist, and philosopher, b. at Bolzano on 26 July 1735, d. there on 11 Jan. 1813.
He entered the Society of Jesus on 9 Oct. 1753 and was ordained on 19 June 1765. Having earned a doctorate in theology, he taught philosophy at Munich, Dillingen, and Innsbruck. After the suppression of the Society (1773), he taught canon law for twenty years at the College of the Most Holy Savior in Augsburg. He also served as counselor to the apostolic nuncio at Regensburg and traveled to Rome to address German ecclesiastical matters. In philosophy, he followed Newton and the analytic method and refuted Kant. In law, he opposed Febronianism.
