Haydock
The first. This day was doubly solemn, as being the first day of the month, consequently entitled to all the sacrifices enjoined for it; and also a holiday, for which other victims are requisite, besides the perpetual holocausts, (Numbers 29:2-6.; Numbers 28:11.) (Haydock)

Feast of Tabernacles.
Concordance 8.

Concordance 9.
29:35
Feast of Assemblie, and Collection.
29:1
"The day of clamor and trumpets is." — The feast of Trumpets was celebrated on the first day of the seventh month; concerning this feast I spoke at Leviticus xxiii, 24.
29:3
3. "For each bullock" — that is for a bullock. Thus the Hebrew. For only one bullock was offered each year on the feast of Trumpets, namely single bullocks each year; and this our Interpreter wished to convey.
29:6
6. BESIDES THE HOLOCAUST OF THE CALENDS. — For the Feast of Trumpets fell on the calends of the seventh month: whence on that day both the victims proper to the calends and the victims proper to the Feast of Trumpets had to be immolated, after the perpetual sacrifice of the lamb, as I said in the preceding chapter, verse 10; whence the same thing is here repeated and impressed upon in the Feast of Expiation, verse 11, and on each day of the Feast of Tabernacles, as appears from verses 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 38.
29:7
7. THE TENTH DAY ALSO OF THIS SEVENTH MONTH SHALL BE HOLY UNTO YOU. — For that was the Feast of Expiation, concerning which Leviticus xxiii, 27.
29:11
11. BESIDES THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE WONT TO BE OFFERED FOR SIN IN EXPIATION. — For on this day of expiation the priest, the people, and the tabernacle were expiated by the shedding of blood in the Holy of Holies; and to accomplish this a calf was employed and immolated for sin, and a ram for a holocaust. Again, two rams, one of which was the scapegoat, the other became a holocaust, concerning which Leviticus xvi. Those sacrifices therefore were offered first for expiation, which being accomplished, the holocausts here prescribed were immolated in honour of the feast, namely one calf, one ram, seven lambs. AND THE PERPETUAL HOLOCAUST, — that is the perpetual sacrifice. "With the sacrifice" — that is the mincha, which is wont to be added to the perpetual sacrifice.
29:12
12. AND ON THE FIFTEENTH DAY OF THE SEVENTH MONTH, WHICH SHALL BE HOLY UNTO YOU. — For then was the Feast of Tabernacles, which was celebrated for seven, nay for eight days, concerning which Leviticus xxiii, 34. Whence here are prescribed the victims to be offered on each of its days, and they are almost the same on every day, namely two rams and fourteen lambs, except that on the first day thirteen calves, on the second twelve, on the third eleven, and thus continually diminishing were offered; but on the eighth day, which was the assembly or gathering, they offered only one calf, one ram, seven lambs, as appears from verse 35.
29:13
43. "A tenth of a tenth." — One tenth of an ephah, which is a tenth of a cor, as I said in the preceding chapter, verse 13.
29:35
35. "On the eighth day, which is most solemn." — For then was the Feast of Assembly and Gathering, as I said verse 22; concerning which I have said more in Leviticus xxiii, 36.
29:39
39. "These shall you offer to the Lord in your solemnities, besides your vows and voluntary offerings in holocaust, in sacrifice, in libation, and in victims of peace" — that is to say, These victims already mentioned I command in the feasts, besides those which you shall offer from a vow or willingly in holocaust, in sacrifice, that is in mincha, in libation and in victims of peace. Where note: A libation was never offered by itself alone, but always with a sacrifice; whence when the sacrifice was free and voluntary, the libation was considered to be free and voluntary.

The first day of T. (whose name does not occur in the Bible) marks the beginning of the year, in accordance with Lev. 23:23 and Num. 29:1; whereas according to Lev. 25:9 the first day of the year is the 10th of T. This fluctuation is held by some to be due to the foreign origin of the custom of beginning the year in autumn. …
