Abina, Rabbi (abbreviated as *Rabina*, following Talmudic usage)

ABINA, RABBI (abbreviated as Rabina, according to Talmudic usage). – Jewish doctor of the school of Sura on the Euphrates, the last of the Amoraim (v.). He was a disciple of Rabbi Aši ben Simai (v.), who had begun the Gemara (v.). He collaborated in the compilation of the Babylonian Talmud and, succeeding his master, completed the work. He died around 490.
