ABRAMO I ALBATHANTZI. - Armenian Katholikos, from 607 to 610-11. He ascended the patriarchal throne, which had already been vacant for three years, during which it had been administered by Verthanes, whose obstinacy in accusing Kurion, katholikos of the Iberians, of favouring the Nestorian heresy and adhering to the Chalcedonian formula was taken up by A. and eventually led to the separation of the Iberians. A., in fact, after sending Kurion three letters of protest, in the last of which he clearly took a stand against the Council of Chalcedon, excommunicated Kurion, who had remained firm in his orthodox position.
