ADAMO da COURLANDON. – Liturgist, exegete, and moral theologian, born at Courlandon (Champagne), dean of the chapter of Laon from 1195, died at Laon in 1233 or 1234.
From 1213 to 1217 he was held prisoner by Enguerando III, lord of Coucy, for having defended the rights of the Church of Laon. In 1219 he reformed the liturgy and promoted the codification of the usages of that church (Ordinario, edited by U. Chevalier). Having resigned as dean (1223), he held the office of cantor. He wrote biblical commentaries (Act., Mt., Pentateu, Quaestiones of various kinds) and many treatises on moral theology. He dedicated his manuscripts (still unpublished, in the library of Laon) to Michele di Corbeil, archbishop of Sens, who had been his protector and predecessor at Laon.
