ADSONE, EMERICO. – Benedictine, hagiographer, from a noble family in the Jura region around 920, d. 972. He became a monk at Luxeuil and taught at Toul, but in 968 was elected abbot of Moutier-en-Der (hence his Latin name: Dervensis). In 972, while on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, he died and was buried on one of the Cicala Islands, Antipalea.
Among the most notable scholars of his time, he is the author of an interesting treatise on the Antichrist and several hagiographical works: on St Mansueto of Toul, St Gualberto (abbot of Luxeuil), St Berchario (patron of Moutier-en-Der), and St Basolus. Of his poetry, very little remains.
