ADSON, EMERIC. - Benedictine, hagiographer, born of a noble family in the Jura around 920, died in 972. He became a monk at Luxeuil and taught at Toul, but in 968 he was elected abbot of Moutier-en-Der (whence his Latin name: Dervensis). In 972, while going on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, he died and was buried on one of the Cyclades islands, Antipalea.

One of the most remarkable scholars of his time, he is the author of an interesting treatise on the Antichrist and of several hagiographic works: on St. Mansuetus of Toul, St. Walbert (abbot of Luxeuil), St. Bercharius (patron of Moutier-en-Der) and St. Basolus. Of his poems very little has survived.
